When I decided to step out of my comfort zone and follow the calling God had on my life, which was to start this ministry, I wanted to be sure that I would be able to reach people with as few hindrances as possible. I took a random survey of 100 people with a few questions I felt were important to know how the average person felt.
I wanted to know the “Reasons” or “Excuses” why people did not attend church services regularly, and or what did they not like or feel comfortable with going to church. The top three complaints came as follows:
1. All they (the church) want is money. 2. I feel it’s a “keeping up appearances” session with the dress code. 3. I don’t like being embarrassed by being publicly acknowledged as a visitor.
The solution! I sought out the scriptures and found that the “passing” of the offering plate was no where to be found. Jesus went out in everyday attire and preached and or taught people who wore the same, and He didn’t embarrass people unless they brought it on themselves.
At Cowboy Fellowship at the Cross we have an antique metal milk jug placed at the entrance on the table with bulletins and other important information. Our dress code if you will is come as you feel comfortable, on your way to work or just getting off, you’ll fit right in. And finally, we acknowledge guests and visitors with a hand shake before or after the service.
None the less, it does take money to help people, as well as to pay bills. I do not believe in wasting money on a fancy building, or fancy things, but I do believe in helping people. You do not need to be a member, to have a need, and if you have a need “Even to the least of these” we are called to help. Feed the hungry, clothe the cold & educate the less fortunate.
“THANK YOU” for allowing us to help those who cannot help themselves, by continuing to share the love of Jesus Christ with a true servant’s heart and supporting us as we “Go thee therefore and make disciples.” Your support and donations allows us to continue to serve our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
